Wrapping irregularly shaped gifts can be daunting, but with the pleating technique using plastic bags, you can achieve a neat and decorative finish. This tutorial provides step-by-step instructions on how to pleat plastic bags to accommodate gifts of various shapes, ensuring a tidy and appealing presentation. Supplies

  • pair of scissors
  • clothes iron
  • 1 sheet of copy or parchment paper
  • 1 plastic shopping bag
  • 1 paper shopping bag (optional)

iNstructions

1. Cut open the plastic bag and flatten into a large sheet.
2. Cut a 1″ wide strip from the sheet for ribbon.
3. Put the gift in the center of the sheet. Gather the edges of the sheet at the top.
4. While holding the gathered sheet together tie wind the ribbon around and tie the top closed.
5. This is an optional step to make the sheet conform more closely to the shape of the gift and smooth out the plastic. This works best on objects with flat surfaces. If the gift or its packaging is plastic or heat sensitive, I recommend skipping the iron.

Place a piece of copy paper on the top of the gift, and using the rayon or polyester setting, VERY lightly iron the sheet.
6. Cut a ribbon from a paper or plastic bag in a contrasting color to create a bow.
