HOW TO Wrap Gifts with Plastic Bags

Plastic bags often accumulate in our homes, but they can be transformed into stylish gift wrap with a bit of ingenuity. This tutorial demonstrates how to use plastic bags to wrap gifts of various shapes and sizes, offering a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to traditional wrapping paper. Learn how to fuse plastic and create decorative elements that add a unique touch to your presents.

Supplies

  • pair of scissors
  • clothes iron
  • 1 sheet of copy or parchment paper
  • plastic shopping bags
  • paper bag (optional)

Instructions

2. Cut two 1″ wide strips from plastic sheet, cutting along the long side of the bag. We’ll use these strips to create cord.

3. Cut one 1″ wide strips from plastic sheet, cutting along the short side of the bag. We’ll use this as “tape”.

4. Cut the plastic sheet to size for wrapping your gift.

5. Pre-cut as many 2” pieces of “tape” from the 1” strip as you think you might need to have them ready before wrapping as you normally would. You may only need 3 pieces of tape—one for the bottom and one for each side—or you might need a couple more. When wrapping with plastic and securing with plastic “tape”, as in this tutorial, I wrap in a way that create as fews seams as possible.

6. To secure seams, cut use the “tape”. Place a piece of “tape” on top of the seam.

8. To create plastic cord, first twist two ribbons individually to create single stranded cord, then twist the two cords together. Knot both ends and lightly stretch the entire length to remove kinks from the double stranded cord.
